From 1972 to 1977 Klaus Hackmann worked as an independent entrepreneur in South Africa, where he successfully represented well-known German companies in the process and control, measurement, and production monitoring industries. He introduced the concept of flexible working hours to the continent of Africa. Many West and East European technical and commercial colleagues reported both directly and indirectly to Hackmann, as MD, as well as Director responsible for the sales and distribution of well-known international industrial and chemical products.
In Johannesburg, South Africa, he was both a board member of the German-South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and of EXAS (Executive Association of South Africa) from 1972 to 1977.
An independent consultant for corporations such as DuPont de Nemours, and as foreign trade expert for several other companies.
